Recently, the Paleo Diet has taken the world by storm with people from every walk of life turning to the eating habits of our earliest ancestors in a bid to improve their health. At its core, the Paleo Diet relies on a plant-based diet with occasional servings of meat and fish and absolutely no dairy. How close is this to the diet of ancient cavemen and how much of their lifestyle do we really want to emulate? More importantly, what was sex like for cavemen and could this diet be the magic bullet people need to ramp up their libido and improve performance?
The Paleo Diet – A Brief Overview
The Paleo Diet essentially tries to recreate the eating habits before the advent of processed food, fast-food drive-thru meals or even refined sugar. It’s a stripped down version of the whole food approach and has become incredibly popular with people from pretty much every walk of life. On the Paleo Diet people can eat fruits, vegetables, meat, some eggs and seeds. The foods excluded on this diet can be intimidating as it includes everyday staples such as cheese, bread, peanuts, milk, beans, coffee and soda.
The Paleo Diet also excludes alcohol, packaged snacks, fast-food meals and anything that comes from your grocery store’s Frozen Meal section. With such heavy restrictions, the diet is something many people do for a few weeks as a dietary cleanse before adding some foods back in but, for die-hard fans, it becomes a true lifestyle – one which has a number of benefits and a few drawbacks.
The Problem with Paleo
The biggest initial problem with the Paleo Diet is that it’s rather hard to stick to if you’re used to a thoroughly modern diet. Food has become a way we socialize as well as a way to fuel our body so sticking to a diet that excludes fried food, alcoholic drinks, sweeteners, breads and dairy can make getting together for dinner and drinks rather difficult.
Social issues aside, simply making the switch to this pared down diet can be a shock to the system. But it’s a shock that could be the key to rejuvenating a person’s sex drive and boosting performance. Simply put, the Paleo Diet really is a good bet for those struggling with low libido and poor sexual performance. Why? Because it strips out all the refined sugars, fatty foods, overdoses of salt and everything else commonly found in a modern diet that negatively impacts a person’s health.
Paleo Diet and Sexual Performance
When a person seeks out medical attention for sexual dysfunction, the first thing most medical experts ask about is how that person eats and how often they exercise This isn’t an effort to “fat shame” people or to criticize their habits – it’s simply a way to learn how a person is fuelling their body and how that fuel impacts their energy levels. It’s entirely possible for a person to be overweight and out of shape even if they tend to stick to what they consider a healthy diet. The trick? Today’s healthy food is still often stuffed with sugar, fat and salt. We’re told to look for Fat Free snacks or Low Sodium canned foods but, in reality, these are simply healthier versions of food which is poor in nutrition.
The Paleo Diet strips all of that away and gets back to real food – that is, food in its natural state. No doubt this is a difficult change for many people, especially those out of practice when it comes to creating meals rich in nutrients but that are comprised entirely of fresh vegetables, lean meats and raw fruit. No mashed potatoes. No crusty rolls. No butter. So while this diet may be a difficult challenge it’s one people should discuss with their doctor as it truly can reset the system and improve stamina, libido and performance in and out of the bedroom.
