Growing up we all hear a lot of weird stories when it comes to sex – stories about girls who get pregnant from sitting on a gross toilet or celebrities who use pets as weird sexual devices. While we eventually learn these stories are simply the result of an overactive – and frankly disturbed – imagination, there are some stories that seem wild which end up being frighteningly true.
STUCK TOGETHER IN LOVE
Sex in the movies is anything but realistic. But still, sexy films inspire many people to try new things and be adventurous and that’s not bad, right? A couple in Italy would probably beg to differ after they decided to get frisky in the ocean … and wound up in the Emergency Room.
In October of 2014, an Italian couple made headlines around the world when they wound up proving penis captivus is, indeed, more than just a legend. The couple found themselves nearly alone along a stretch of beach at Porto San Giorgio along the Adriatic Sea. The beach was apparently pretty empty and the couple decided to have a little fun. In order to ensure they weren’t found out, they began having sex under water but soon realized they had become stuck and couldn’t pull apart. Eventually they made their way onto the beach and were able to flag down someone walking by and then get to a hospital where doctors had to be called in to help finally get the couple apart.
Penis captivus, which translates into exactly what it sounds like it does, is an extremely rare condition but is more likely to happen to couples who start getting frisky in the water. The act of sex under water creates a surprisingly powerful vacuum seal which is then impossible to break since both partners don’t have the right leverage and, of course, each one of them is freaking out.
Of course, that’s not the only urban legend about sex that turned out to be true. Other crazy sex stories from over the years include a 66-year old man who went temporarily blind every time he had an orgasm. Eventually, doctors traced the problem back to the very official sounding “transient monocular blindness” but, even then, they informed him that the condition was caused because the man’s orgasms were causing his blood vessels to constrict so intensely that it affected blood flow to his eyes.
Another strange but true story came out of a small town way back in the mid-1980s when a couple rented some video equipment to make a sex tape … and then accidentally left the tape in the machine when they returned it. Before they knew it, their intimate 90 minute tape spread like wildfire and they went down in history as having the first leaked sex tape. While the story eventually became something most people thought of as nothing more than a cautionary tale, the fact of the matter is it was well documented in the local paper at the time and now lives on in infamy on the myth busting website Snopes.
Sexual urban legends can entertain but, in some cases, they can also warn us of very real dangers. While it’s unlikely you’ll become stuck together of you decide to have a little fun in the pool or hot tub, the chance of it happening is big enough that you might want to wait until you get to dry land … unless you want to be the seed of truth in the next generation of urban legends.
